Addition Chart Game

Start with an empty ten-by-ten addition chart and fill it in, one fact at a time. A square is highlighted and its fact appears above the chart: type the sum, press Enter, and the square fills in. Get it wrong and the square stays empty, marked in amber so you can find it again.

Because 6 + 9 and 9 + 6 are the same fact, answering one fills both squares, so there are 55 facts to find rather than 100. Adding 1, adding 10 and the doubles along the diagonal go quickly. The squares still empty near the end, often the sums that cross ten such as 7 + 8, are the ones worth practising.

There is no clock and no way to lose. Tap any empty square to answer that one next, or let the game choose. The chart is saved on this device, so a few squares a day is enough, and when the addition chart is full the multiplication chart is one button away.

Frequently asked questions

How does the addition chart game work?

Each square of the chart is the sum of the number at the start of its row and the number at the top of its column. The game asks the fact for one empty square; answer it right and that square fills in with its mirror across the diagonal. All 55 facts make a full chart.

Which numbers are on the addition chart?

The rows and columns run from 1 to 10, so the smallest sum is 1 + 1 = 2 and the largest is 10 + 10 = 20. That covers every single-digit addition fact, plus adding 10.

What happens when I get one wrong?

Nothing is lost. The square stays empty and turns amber, and it comes round again later. Facts answered wrong are also kept on this device, and a button under the chart prints a worksheet of just those.

Is my addition chart saved?

Yes, in this browser, separately from the multiplication chart. Leave halfway and the squares you filled are still there next time. Nothing is sent anywhere, and Start a new chart clears only the chart you are on.
