Subtraction Worksheets
Make free printable subtraction worksheets. Pick number ranges, choose problems per page, and download a ready-to-print PDF with an optional answer key.
Build free, printable subtraction worksheets in seconds. Set the number range for each value — from basic single-digit facts up to three-digit borrowing — then choose how many problems fit on a page and how many pages to print. Every worksheet downloads as a clean PDF, and you can add a matching answer key so it is ready to hand out the moment it prints.
Use the Regrouping setting to zero in on the skill that needs the most practice. Set it to 'No Regrouping' for straightforward single-step subtraction, switch to 'Regrouping Only' when your student is working on borrowing, or leave it on 'Both' for mixed practice. Worksheets are randomly generated every time, so each sheet is unique.

Frequently asked questions
How do I create a subtraction worksheet?
Choose the number ranges, set how many problems per page and how many pages, then download or print the PDF. Tick Answer key for a marking key.
Should subtraction facts be learned separately from addition?
No. Each subtraction fact is an addition fact read the other way: 13 - 5 = 8 because 5 + 8 = 13. A child who knows the addition facts can find a difference by asking what must be added. Practicing the two side by side is quicker than treating subtraction as a new set of facts.
Can I make subtraction worksheets that require borrowing (regrouping)?
Yes. Choose 'Regrouping Only' in the settings and the generator will only produce problems where borrowing is required.
What grades are subtraction worksheets for?
Single-digit subtraction suits kindergarten through grade 2, two-digit subtraction with borrowing suits grades 2–3, and three-digit subtraction suits grades 3–4.
