Four kinds of question in rotation: converting between percents, decimals and fractions; taking a percentage of a number; working out what percent one number is of another; and applying a rise or a fall. What is 80% of 155? 3 is what percent of 5? A price of 145 falls by 40%.
Every answer is a whole number, and that is a deliberate limit. 33% of 50 is 16.5 - a correct answer and a decimals question - so the percentage and the number are chosen together to divide cleanly. A sheet where a quarter of the answers came out to a half would teach that percentages are messy rather than teaching percentages.
A fraction with 100 on the bottom, written with a sign instead. 45% is 45/100, which is 0.45. Those are three ways of writing one number, and converting between them is the first thing these sheets ask.
Divide by 100 to get 1%, then multiply by the percentage you want. For 20% of 60: 1% is 0.6, so 20% is 12. With the friendlier percentages there are shortcuts - 50% is half, 25% is a quarter, 10% is moving the decimal point one place.
Because the percentage and the number are picked together so the arithmetic comes out. Percentages that give a decimal answer are a decimals question, and our decimal worksheets are the place for those.
