2nd Grade Math Worksheets

Second grade is the year of the second column. These sheets set both numbers to two digits, so every problem is a 10-to-99 addition or subtraction written vertically - the format where carrying and borrowing actually have to be worked rather than counted on fingers.

Regrouping is left on Both, which mixes problems that carry with problems that do not, so a student has to decide each time instead of applying one rule down the page. Switch it to Regrouping Only when carrying is the thing being taught, or No Regrouping for the week before.

Frequently asked questions

What math does 2nd grade cover?

Fluent addition and subtraction within 100, two- and three-digit problems using place value, counting by fives, tens and hundreds, and the beginnings of arrays that turn into multiplication.

How do I get worksheets that always require carrying?

Set Regrouping to Regrouping Only and every problem on the page will need a carry or a borrow. There is a dedicated page for this at Addition With Regrouping.

Can I make these three-digit problems?

Yes - set Number of Digits to 3 in either value range. Leaving one range at two digits gives the three-digit-plus-two-digit problems that turn up late in second grade.

Do the subtraction problems ever go negative?

No. The generator orders each subtraction problem so the answer is zero or greater.
