Naming Polygons
Free printable naming polygons worksheets. Name the shape from its number of sides, or count the sides from its name, with a key.
Eight questions a sheet covering the eight polygons from triangle to decagon, and each question runs in one of two directions, chosen at random: name the polygon with this many sides, or say how many sides this polygon has. Both directions matter, because recognising a word is not the same as producing it - a student can answer "how many sides has a hexagon" from a half-memory and still be unable to name a seven-sided shape.
The four-sided shape is called a quadrilateral rather than a square or a rectangle, which is the distinction the page is quietly teaching: a quadrilateral is any four-sided polygon, and squares and rectangles are particular ones.

Which polygons are on the sheet?

Does it ask both ways round?
Yes. Each question is drawn as either name-from-sides or sides-from-name, so a sheet practises recognising the word and producing it.
Why quadrilateral rather than square?
A square is one kind of quadrilateral, not the name for four sides. Every name on the sheet describes a side count and nothing else, which is what keeps the set consistent from three to ten.
Does the angle step setting change this page?
No. These questions have no angle in them, so the setting has nothing to act on - it is left unset here for that reason.
